What is Important?

Something i feel that is important for people to be aware of is the way stereotyping can affect people in many ways, and why we should stop it but probably never will.  As we have talked about a little bit in class stereotyping is something that happens all the time no matter the reason, and can be a product of a lot of different peoples cultures and environment.  As we have also learned stereotyping can be used as a way of lying to basically use it as an excuse to blame another person or group of people for someone else's mistakes.  I feel it is important for people to realize when events like this are taking place because once stereotyping is recognized it will become easier to prevent.   With that being sad i feel like stereotyping will always be an issue as long as there are different groups of people, different cultures, and people with different beliefs.  People do this everyday without even realizing what they are doing so to a lot of people its not important or a big problem.  I think because stereotyping can be such a small thing people overlook it when it has a major effect, and its can also hard to determine when a stereotype is actually a stereotype and not the truth.  That is the biggest reason i think it will never stop because to certain groups of people its the truth and to others its just the opposite. This is a topic that i myself want to learn more about and feel that other people should have some similar interest as me.

Can there be World Citizenship

In the article "Can There Be World Citizenship" by Elise Boulding, she talks mainly about how the majority of countries have separated themselves from the United Nations in the past years looking for more independence and being more selfish basically, which i think relates a lot to our Generation me discussions.  I fell like one of the main points the author was trying to get across was that even though countries like the United States want to be own there own and have more freedom, when problems arise that they dont have the answer to they come running back to the United Nations looking for help and or new resolutions.  One quote i liked in the text was "states dont want to be assimilated in the United Nations, yet they want to avoid the destructiveness of war."  What i think this quote means is basically states and people have seem to become to lazy and selfish, wanting all the benefits of things but not wanting to put in the work to get there.  Again this sounds a lot like the generations of today and the problem people are having with generation y's and how they live there lives.  I dont know if i personally believe this relation, but it sure does sound like Elise Boulding would based on her life experience.  I dont ever see the whole world becoming one in any situation and no matter what is being taught.  I feel that as long as there in life there will be problems and disagreements between people and groups inside and outside of there countries.  With that said i do feel we can change the approach with how we deal with them instead of just resorting to fighting and war, but this will take a long time and i doubt any of us will ever see it.

Why worry and Generation Me

The two articles that were read were very similar in my opinion and had a lot of the same points about generation me kid’s being to over confident and greedy, and basically selfish.  Although I do agree with most of what was said in both reading I felt that they were being a little harsh in how they describes college students actions and thoughts making it sound like absolutely everyone bourn in this time frame acts like that.  Just because Terrell Owens or Donald trump who probably isn’t even a “generation me” say things to make them sounds selfish doesn’t mean we should all be put under that category, but do to statistics that’s how the world works.  One part I liked about the why worry article is when they talked about how this generation may not just act like this due to selfishness or arrogance, but it may be because the bad economic situation, the columbine shooting, and 9/11 which they said just may make us have a higher tolerance for stress.  I’m not sure if that idea may be true, but I did like the fact that the author gave alternative reasons, and didn’t just try to assume of point out the obvious.  Life does seem a lot different from how it was generations ago but times change and people have to expect that, so if generations before the generation me think that kids or college students aren’t independent enough or as one of the article says “wimpy” then let life hit them in the face and im sure there outlook will change eventually.

10 ways to lie.

The white lie- This lie is like me telling a girl that her hair looks good before a date even though it may not look that great, but it makes her feel good and I don't have to wait another hour for her to get ready.

Facades- An example of this is how every first day of highschool I dressed really nice to try and impress girls, friends I haven't see in a while, and new students that may have joined the school. I would continue this until i eventually didn't care and started wearing basketball shorts again.

Ignoring the plain facts- This would be like letting my friend take a math test for me even though I know he's terrible at that subject, but I still give him a chance cause I trust him and he claims he knows what he's doing.

Deflecting- This would be like a girl trying to tryout for a guys basketball team, and claiming she's good, but the guys don't think she's good enough and they never seen her play. So instead of the girl proving them wrong and trying to show she's good enough she just argues and calls all the guys sexist.

Omissions- This is something I have honestly done quite a few times, and probably always will. For example one time I was taking a shower with my iPhone in the room and I'm assuming due to the steam when I got out a lot of the functions on my phone weren't working. So I took it to the apple store hoping to get it replaced and the first thing I was asked was did you spill water on it. Since technically i didn't I said know and luckily they couldn't tell what really happen and I went home with a free brand new phone.

Stereotypes- I have a friend who I recently found out was Jewish and it was awkward how I found out. I was trying to park my car in a very tight parking spot because someone was basically taking two lanes. I ended up not making it in, so I took this girls lip stick and wrote on the windshield of the person who couldn't park and wrote " don't be Jewish learn how to park" and went on with my day. Later telling this story to my friends one of the said hey I'm Jewish and he really was, and he found that offensive and said he a really good driver.

Groupthink- This is like when I played on a basketball team while during the game you had to make plays that were for the good of the team whether it had positive or negative results. Such has diving on the ground for lose balls where you can get hurt, but you need to get that ball to help your team win.

Delusion- I have a friend who does nothing all day besides chill, and then smoke weed. And I always ask why do you smoke and tell him he's addicted, which he doesn't agree with. He says he smokes to chill and relax, but this guy has no job has like 2 classes and has plenty of money. So he doesn't need to smoke to chill since that's what he does all day anyone. He just doesn't want to believe he has a problem and should stop.

Dismissal- This can be like when I was a kid and my parents used to take me to theme parks which I hated roller coasters cause I thought they were to fast. My dad used to tell me that the rollercoasters were just look fast but really only go at most 20 mph. So it convinced me to go on and quickly found out that was not true.

Rant 2

A problem that i believe a lot of people in this world have is being very very hypocritical, and not owning up to the fact that they are at all.  I'll be the first one to tell you that when it comes to certain things i can be very hypocritical and i will be sure to own up to and point out that it is just my opinion or belief, but a lot of people a huge problem doing that.  Hypocrites pass a lot of judgement and i believe cause a lot of the stereotypes that we have in our lives today.  I think this is a big problem because people need to be responsible for what they say and at the same time need to realize that not everyone will agree with them, so you cant get mad if someone argues with you.  In this day and age i feel like people are a lot more sensitive to little things that dont matter, and they get up set really easily if someone argues there opinion or think they are wrong.  So basically people stop thinking your the only one who knows anything in this world and except the fact the other people have thoughts and opinions too, which sometimes believe it or not can be better then yours.

Rant 1

So for my first rant i would like to discuss my hate for DubStep music anywhere and everywhere.  If you have been to a party anywhere here in chico i can guarantee you have heard this music.  If you dont know what DubStep is i dont really know how to describe it besides the fact that it a lot of base noise and usually has no words it it.  It is almost like house or techno but much worse i actually kind of like those.  This music is usually heard at raves meaning most of the people that do think they like it are under the influence of something, and they usually describe the sound of it as wompwompwompwomp, which is how people describe the sound of it.  So if you like DubStep be my guess but that would probably mean you drink more then me.  So i can not wait for this fad to pass because i know it will very soon, so everyone can start playing music that the majority of people actually like.
